OSTM School History & Mission Statement
Our Mission & Philosophy
Founded by Douglas Van D’Elia and Elizabeth Goldenberg in February 1997, the mission of the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage is to provide training in the science of massage; with the intent of graduating exceptionally trained, high quality massage therapists. OSTM graduates will be prepared for entry-level employment in the massage therapy field.
OSTM’s primary goal is to prepare students to meet or exceed the requirements for the New York State licensing exam in massage therapy. We strive to enhance our community by making massage services accessible in a variety of settings. The school provides a safe, professional setting for the public to experience massage and learn about its benefits, while maintaining a continuing-education program and resource center for licensed massage therapists. The school offers both day and evening programs, supported by modern equipment, multimedia library resources, and highly qualified, talented faculty.
OSTM’s educational philosophy includes the following commitments:
- To employ faculty members who excel in their chosen field, and who display a high degree of professional, educational and ethical standards.
- To create a learning environment that supports students and their diverse learning styles throughout their program at OSTM.
- To continually evaluate and improve our program content and delivery, and encourage ongoing professional, educational and personal development of faculty and staff.
- To create an environment of mutual respect and safety, where each student’s unique abilities are honored.
